UW30 Underwater Speaker and Accessories
The University Sound UW30 underwater speaker is an economical moving-coil speaker produced by Electrovoice, a division of Bosch Security and Safety Systems. The UW30 offers a remarkably consistent response, within +/- 4 dB, across the frequency range of 80 Hz to 1300 Hz, with a total sound level of 125 dB referenced to 1 µPa/V at a distance of 1 meter. This speaker is suitable for various applications, including synchronized swimming in small home pools, marine biology studies, environmental impact assessments in aquariums and tanks, and relaxation during Watsu (aquatic massage) and flotation tank sessions.
To ensure the safety of personnel and swimmers at aquatic facilities, the UW30 speaker must be mounted within a corrosion-resistant metal shell. The front side of the shell should be enclosed by a captive corrosion-resistant metal speaker grille that is securely bonded to the shell, ensuring a low-resistance contact. This mounting requirement is specified in the 2005 NFPA 70: National Electrical Code (NEC) Handbook Section 680.27, as well as in the 2003 International Residential Code (IRC) Paragraph E4106.9.1.
